Subaru has finally revealed the long-awaited WRX STI Type RA & BRZ tS — slightly modified versions of two of its popular models — with the added acronyms standing for “Record Attempt” and “Tuned by STI” respectively. While the Type RA is sturdier and lighter than its predecessor and the tS comes with 18-inch wheels for the first time, pleasing as they are to the eye there’s not a lot of movement under the hood: the RA receives a slight nudge to 310hp from 305; the tS lacks a Subaru turbo, so fans of the BRZ’s handling but not of its horsepower will still need to wait for the rumored, true STI version.
With other minor modifications such as 19-inch forged alloy wheels and an exposed carbon fiber roof for the WRX STI Type RA, Brembo brakes, beefed up suspension braces and 215/40 R 18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires for the tS, final details — including that all-important price tag — will roll out later this year, with the two models expected to go on sale in early 2018.
