Zaha Hadid Granite & Marble Furniture Collection for CITCO
Known predominately for neofuturistic architectural designs like the London Aquatics Center, Qatar’s 2022 World Cup stadium, her upcoming 40-story hotel tower for Macau’s City of Dreams project, renowned Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid took to Milan Design Week’s Salone del Mobile to unveil a series of brand new series of furniture. Created for Italian interior design firm CITCO, the series consists of three distinct pieces: a shelving unit, table, and fireplace. Reminiscent of the designer’s architecture thanks to cantilevers and archetypal curves, the granite-carved “Tela” shelving unit sees interwoven central support – thus allowing each level to extend far beyond the design’s core. The “Luna” table, on the other hand, is a monolithic carrara marble construction with undulating forms that extend to the floor to provide support for the flat surface. Finally, the collection is rounded out with the “Calla” – a reinterpretation of a wall-mounted fireplace, carved from Spanish negro marquina and composed of polished petal-like shapes that reflect the dancing flame.
