Reasons Why Men Should Wear A Sports Jacket

The classic men's jacket is a classic wardrobe piece for a reason. It makes any man look respectable. Think about it. Pair a well-tailored jacket with classic shoes and sharp trousers, you've given 90% of your body a time-tested, solid presentation. All you have to do is brush your hair and smile!

The single men's jacket, buttoned near the waist and ending at the bottom of the buttocks has endured for a century because it builds out the shoulders, exaggerates the trimness of the waist, and it's solid lines allow the eyes to move up and down the body without being jarred to the right or left. There are specific proportions the human eye finds pleasing. The “golden ratio” and similar mathematical cousins crop up in art across all cultural lines, demonstrating our inherited preference for certain shapes and balances. Unfortunately, most men's bodies aren't built along any kind of ideal ratio, which is why none of us look like Greek sculptures (the ancient Greeks loved them some math). Our waists tend to be right around the midpoint of our height or just slightly above it, which is great for balancing and running away from saber-toothed tigers and other evolutionary needs but not as aesthetically pleasing as something more in the neighborhood of a 1:2 ratio. A suitcoat raises our perceived waistline, dividing our body into a top third and a bottom two-thirds rather than cleanly in half.

My Hackett London Grey Suit

When it comes to suits, nothing beats the staples. And by staples, we mean black, navy and grey. Navy and black have always had a general popularity for their adaptability, but grey also emerges as a worthy suit colour choice. In fact, grey suits have become more prevalent in street style, their versatility especially appealing to the younger market. For something clean, understated and classic, a grey suit does the trick. However grey can also be tricky to perfect. Done right grey reads youthful and modern; done wrong it will leave you looking outdated and frumpy.

Light Grey Suit

Light grey suits are an excellent choice for formal and casual looks. They are youthful, modern and sharp – but as with all suits, tailoring is essential. Ensure you’re choosing grey suits that do not overwhelm your body and fit your shoulders appropriately. Lighter versions of grey are also an appealing option for the hotter months and provide a summery alternative to the monotony of black and navy. You are also going to want to make sure you keep an eye out for potential dirt marks as light grey can stain quite easily.

Casual Styling for Light Grey Suit

Wearing light grey suits can be a softer approach to grey tailoring, and they work phenomenally well for casual wear. The key to embracing light grey for casual looks is to go for suits that come in lightweight materials and fabrics such as cotton. Pair a light grey suit with white trainers for a relaxed look inspired by recent street style trends. Alternatively, a brighter trainer will draw emphasis to your outfit and inject a dash of colour to your looks. White complements light grey well but does not be afraid to incorporate darker tones like burgundies and navies to ground your looks.

Spending The Day By The Sea

Great is the sun, and wide he goes
Through empty heaven with repose;
And in the blue and glowing days
More thick than rain he showers his rays.

Though closer still the blinds we pull
To keep the shady parlour cool,
Yet he will find a chink or two
To slip his golden fingers through.

The dusty attic spider-clad
He, through the keyhole, maketh glad;
And through the broken edge of tiles
Into the laddered hay-loft smiles.

Meantime his golden face around
He bares to all the garden ground,
And sheds a warm and glittering look
Among the ivy's inmost nook.

Above the hills, along the blue,
Round the bright air with footing true,
To please the child, to paint the rose,
The gardener of the World, he goes.

Are you looking for a casual but classy look to wear this summer? If so, then look no further than the men’s Riviera style. The Riviera style merges sophistication and casualness together into a stylish blend which light and cool for the warmer weather.

The Riviera Trend

Ever since the first wave of well-to-do holidaymakers started flocking to southern parts of France and Italy in the late ’20s to early ’30s, an understated and elegant style began to emerge that was ideal for the endless boating, promenading and lounging they indulged in. This look is what has since become known as the Riviera trend. There may be a number of staple Riviera pieces already in your wardrobe: blue shirts, chinos, boat shoes, moccasins; but merging these pieces together can create a truly stylish look.

There are a lot of trends that swing about which are hard for people to come on board with. This isn’t one of them. The Riviera trend is really easy to incorporate into your already existing wardrobe as well as being easy to style and even easier to pull off.

Why I Love Greek Summer
Swimsuit & Shirt: Hackett London / Sunglasses: Tomas Maier

There are plenty of blog posts about summer in Greece. Too many to count, but the side that we locals get to see, the secret side is what keeps us coming back for those precious moments with friends near the sea.

Summer in Greece is not only concentrated on the islands of course; which is sometimes the only thing most visitors either get to or care to see. Athens is not a place to be avoided at all costs. The open air concerts, the festivals, the art, the bars, and the hustle and bustle of the beautiful magical Athenian summer night, can’t be described in words; it must be lived!

Here is my list of things that make a Greek summer complete.

  1. Go to the beach early, and stay after sun down — always. (on those rare occasions that you sleep at a beach… wake up at dawn and take refreshing morning swim)
  2. Go with friends, leave with more friends.
  3. Eat at a small tavern, preferably overlooking the sea. Pick the small unassuming places not the ones featured in Conde Nast Traveler (sorry but it’s true).
  4. The secret beaches are usually the best ones.
  5. The secret beaches are the hardest to get to — for that exact same reason.
  6. Leave your fucking mobile phone off and enjoy the sea, dive in, stay in and live in the moment.

Dressing with style changes everything
Total outfit: Hackett London

It is actually not surprising that most men have no idea how to dress – it is a classic case of the blind leading the blind. Most guys will copy what their friends are wearing, happy to fit in and not attract any unnecessary attention. Some go one step further, emulating looks on billboards or in men’s lifestyle magazines. Others try to show off with luxury brands. A few give up entirely.

It’s not hard to dress well. It certainly requires far less money than most assume. However, it requires some patience and a willingness to try something new. Just as with any major undertaking, the first step involves a change of mindset.

You have to convince yourself that it’s good to dress well. This is very important. Become comfortable with the idea of permanently changing how you look. Give yourself the permission to reap the rewards.

The choose your clothes but not try hard! The easiest way to look fashionable and stylish is to choose a well tailored chino like the one that I am wearing in the pictures from Hackett London and a classic shirt with perfect fit.

Craving Summer

Summer is the most carefree time of the year. After a long winter, I find myself craving the warmth of the summer sun and all the activities that come along with it. Here are a few reasons why you may be craving the summer season just like me.

  1. Summer concerts: Whether you love country, rock, pop, or rap, you could not be more excited for your summer music venue to open it's door for summer. These nights become the ones you'll never forget.
  2. County Fairs : Whether you live in a small country town or in a big city, the travel to any local fair over the summer is worth it.
  3. Driving with the windows down : There's not a better feeling in the world than driving with the windows down during the summer and blaring your favorite music for all to hear.
  4. Beach days : Sometimes you need to take a break from all the chaos that summer brings and just have a relaxing beach day with your friends. Whether you're on a lake or an ocean, nothing beats relaxing at the beach on a hot summer day.
  5. Boating : Boating with family and friends during the summer months is how some of the best summer memories are made. Tubing and water skiing are just added bonuses to the fun of boating.
  6. Hiking with family and friends is an experience all its own but nothing beats the rewarding view you get at the top.
  7. Ice cream dates : You know that summer is right around the corner when your favorite ice cream shop opens for business in early spring. Over the summer you are guaranteed to always see someone you know when you go to get ice cream at your favorite local spot.
  8. Old friends : Overall, the best summer memories are made when you meet up with your old high school friends and catch up like nothing has changed.

However grey can also be tricky to perfect. Done right grey reads youthful and modern; done wrong it will leave you looking outdated and frumpy. To style formal light grey suits, keep in mind that it is all about contrast. With your formal shirts, a crisp white shirt is failsafe paired with a black tie or a scarf, but do not fear to experiment with other colours. A muted powder blue complements light grey and other pastel tones can work well also. Balance out your silhouette with a slimmer tie to modernise your look. Don’t forget that accessories are crucial to pulling together an outfit. Find a unique patterned pocket square and fedora to make your suit pop and stick to silver watches, tie bars and cuff links to align with the grey tones of your look.

5 REASONS WHY I LOVE LONDON!
Jacket: Hackhett London / sunglasses: Zegna / Shoes: Santoni / Pants & Turtle Neck: Massimo Dutti

Jacket: Hackhett London / sunglasses: Zegna / Shoes: Santoni / Pants & Turtle Neck: Massimo Dutti

There are a million and one reasons to love London, but here are my top 10 reasons for why you should jump on the next flight to this cooler-than-cool capital.  Seriously, what are you waiting for?

1. The world is here

London is as cosmopolitan as it is British with people from around the globe drawn to the city. Such diversity has seen London become a place of endless possibilities. See a film at a French cinema? No problem. Brunch at a Nordic bakery? Dinner at an authentic Mongolian restaurant? Take your pick. It’s not just food where London has benefited from diversity – over the years diversity has helped to drive creativity, making the capital an international leader in a variety of fields.

2. It celebrates creativity

London has been a magnet for creative spirits for centuries. From William Shakespeare to Jimi Hendrix and J.K. Rowling – the great and the good of the art world have been inspired by London. It still attracts the very best in musical, artistic and acting talent, as well as comedians and modern day literary greats. Endless works of fiction have been set and continue to be written about the streets of London with the likes of Sherlock Holmes, Harry Potter, and Mary Poppins all calling the city home.

3. Music is all around you

London moves to its own, distinct soundtrack. From Ed Sheeran and Adele to The Beatles and the Rolling Stones, the UK has produced countless artists who have shaped the international music scene. You can see an artist every night of the week – choose from superstars at the O2 Arena and indie rockers at the historic Brixton Academy, to up and coming bands in the bars of Camden. The city boasts a number of summer music festival with the British Summer Time festival at Hyde Park and Wireless at Finsbury Park being two of the biggest.

4. The nightlife is legendary

No two nights need ever be the same in London. Take in a spellbinding musical in the West End or watch some of Hollywood’s biggest names tread the boards at the big movie theatres at Leicester Square. Head to the hippest pop-up bars and restaurants in East London, or get a taste of London’s legendary club scene or sing your heart out at a gig featuring London’s hottest new bands or big name acts in Soho or Shoreditch.

5. The food will knock your socks off

British cuisine might be the punchline of many jokes, but you’ll be pleasantly surprised by what London has to offer. Swanky restaurants, delicious street food, and experimental dishes in quirky settings all contribute to London’s constantly evolving, global cuisine. That’s not to say you can’t get a traditional full English breakfast or a Sunday roast – which is not for the calorie conscious- just head to a traditional cafe or gastro pub for your taste of British cuisine.

Summer is officially here!

Lately I am in the mood to add some color in my wardrobe, and I find myself searching street styles with bright colored clothes. I find them so appropriate for summer and so posh.

Combining bright colors is quiet tricky though and you will have to be very careful especially in the accessories that you will go for. Try to choose neutral colors for your shoes and your sunglasses, otherwise you will end looking funny.

Finally be careful and pick maximum 2 bright colors to come up with this look. Adding more colors is risky.

Summertime is all about having fun, why don't we all start having more fun with our clothes too?
